Words, Letters, Monograms

Lately- I've been seeing some interesting rooms incorporating words, phrases and initials.  The trend is still alive and well in both fashion and home but with a more updated look.  Some great inspiration in the rooms and ideas below.  I'm going to be searching for a way to incorporate into my own home. Lady Gaga and Barney's

Tonight's opening in the NY Flagship store at Barney's is GAGA’S WORKSHOP!  I think a road trip is in order.....totally unprecedented move for Barney's!!
The popstar will cut the ribbon at the entrance to her first retail space—around 9:45PM tonight at the 60th Street entrance to the Barneys men’s shop.  The workshop itself, which is located on the totally transformed 5th floor, will open to the public at 11:59.

Barneys' 60th Street entrance will be tricked out like a fun house. Shoppers will enter through the mouth of a giant monster-like Lady Gaga.  The store's windows will be transformed into “a Gaga themed tableaux,” taking inspiration from music, fashion, astrology and the elements, store officials said.
Gaga's Workshop is divided into eight elaborately designed stations, including a toy shop, library, gallery and a jewelry shop created out of "an oversized Lady Gaga-turned-spider and a boudoir in the shape of a giant wig," according to store reps.
The products will range in price from $6 for stocking stuffer candy to a one-off pair of Gaga shoes for $4,100, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

Barneys will donate 25 percent of sales from all items featured in Gaga’s Workshop to the Born This Way Foundation, recently founded and announced by Lady Gaga and her mother.  The foundation will focus on youth empowerment by building self-confidence, fighting bullying, and involving mentoring and career development.

Architectural Salvage

This weekend I enjoyed a day trip to the town of Turners Falls, MA- a historic mill town turned artist community.  The highlight of the day was a visit to the newly opened shop: Loot where owner Erin Mclean has a great eye for vintage items and architectural artifacts,  See my discoveries... I purchased one of the wire baskets which reminds me of the baskets we used in my (very old) school in Brookline, MA for gym class!

Another place to visit is Boston's Restoration Resources in the South End:

Houzz App

An App called Houzz enables you to sort and browze 150,000 (a lot!) interior design photos from your iPad or iPhone.  You can then save your favorites to a customized "ideabook".  Also click on images for where to buy information.  My ideabook of the day... this sweet nursery in shades of white, perfect for a boy or girl!

favorite movie house

Sometimes I am so smitten with a home that I barely even watch the movie.  Such was the case with the movie "The Proposal" which almost had me wanting to relocate to Sitka, Alaska(!)  I was surprised to learn that the movie was actually set in nearby Manchester-By-The-Sea and the town scene was set in Bearskin Neck in Rockport, MA.  My favorite piece is the milk glass chandelier over the table and love the green cabinets.  Does Sandra Bullock get her man? I'll have to watch it again...

Rough Luxe

A little bit rough, a lot of luxury, rough luxe has been a hot trend for hotels and restaurants for some time. A welcoming combination of old and new furniture and art, it's luxurious fabrics with cheap materials and distressed walls. Here's how.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog where I hope to inspire and share my passion for furniture, furnishings and home decor.  Seventeen years ago, I began my career in merchandising where I was a furniture buyer for a chain of French Country furniture stores.  My journey into the world of "home" began and I've happily resided here ever since.  I hope you all enjoy what I have to say and share.
